Biomedical Sensors of Ionizing Radiation

چکیده
To understand the performance of a sensor or make a choice between different sensors for a detection task it is important to have an understanding of how the recorded signals are generated. In the case of sensing ionizing radiation, signals are generated after the incoming radiation has undergone interactions within the sensor material. The types of interactions and the subsequent resultant particles depend upon the type of incident radiation, its energy, and the material that makes up the sensing medium. This introductory section deals with these interactions and discusses the processes that lead to detectable signals. There are many textbooks that deal with these aspects in depth. For more details than are given in this introductory section, the interested reader should consult Evans (1955), Heitler (1954), ICRU (1984, 1992), Kember (1994), Knoll (2000), and Smith (2000).

Assessment of Adaptive Response of Gamma Radiation in the Operating Room Personnel Exposed to Anesthetic Gases by Measuring the Relative Gene Expression Changes Ku80, Ligase1 and P53
Background: Some operating room personnel are occupationally exposed to genotoxic agents such as anesthetic gases and ionizing radiation. Adaptive response, as a defense mechanism, will occur when cells become exposed to a low dose of factors harming DNA (priming dose), which in the subsequent exposure to higher dose of those factors (challenging dose), show more resistance and sensibility.. <b...
متن کاملInvestigation of the Effect of Electron Beam Different Doses on Optical Dissipation in Fiber Optic
Measurement of ionizing radiation in various fields, such as environmental safety, industrial detection processes, radiation protection and medical is very important. Radiation dosimetry plays an important role in determining the amount of energy absorbed and the effects of radiation. Recent optical fiber sensors have been shown to be radiation dosimeters. Our goal here is to investigate the ef...
متن کاملExposure to Mobile Phone Radiation Opens New Horizons in Alzheimer’s Disease Treatment
Alzheimer’s disease, the most common type of dementia and a progressive neurode-generative disease, occurs when the nerve cells in the brain die. Although there are medications that can help delay the development of Alzheimer’s disease, there is cur-rently no cure for this disease. Exposure to ionizing and non-ionizing radiation may cause adverse health effects such as cancer. Looking at th...
متن کاملEvaluation of Radiation Exposure Pattern and Radiation Absorbed Dose Resulting from Occupational Exposure of Anesthesiologists to Ionizing Radiation
Introduction: Little information is available concerning the radiation exposure of anesthesiologists, and no such data have previously been collected in Iran. This prospective study was performed to determine the amount of radiation exposure of anesthesiologists for the purpose of assessing whether or not dangerous levels of radiation exposures were being reached, and to identify factors that c...
